The functions of Agricultural chemistry division are as follows:
- Teaching Agricultural Chemistry to various post graduate and post diploma courses on Alcohol Technology, Sugar Technology and Sugar Engineering
- Research in Agricultural chemistry aspects of sugar manufacture
- To render technical advice to sugar and allied industries in their problems related to low recovery, assessment of sugarcane development potential when starting a new factory, investigation of cane quality, implementation of pre harvest maturity tests for sugarcane crop, development of sugarcane in catchment area of a sugar factory.
There is a semi mechanized 84 hectare sugarcane farm under this division. Sugarcane of improved varieties is grown and field experiments relating to research problems are conducted in the farm. The farm enables the students of the institute to get acquainted with first hand information regarding sugarcane agriculture.
